The Battle of Little Bighorn or Custer's last stand was a complete rout for the U.S. Army. General Armstrong Custer, who graduated last in his class at West Point. Custer ignored the commands of his commanding officer and engaged what he thought was a small band of Sioux. He was unaware that the smaller party was actually part of a more substantial force. His smaller force was surrounded and completely destroyed. The Sioux force was lead by Rain in the Face, Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull. This battle set the stage for the pacification of the West by the U.S. Army.
