Thomas Paine (1737-1809) with his "common sense" was against the cruelty and the brutality of the war and also the higher taxes decreed by the government of his majesty. His work finally paved the way for the declaration of independence of the United States, ratified on July 4th of the same year.
William Sidney Porter, AKA O. Henry (1862-1910) was an American writer considered as one of the masters of the short story. O. Whether it was roaming the pastures of Texas, investigating class tensions in the big city, the writer´s touch to isolate every element of society. Describing it with utmost parsimony and linguistic grace, was inimitable.
