After about 300 A.D.,camels had replaced horses and donkeys as the preferred means of transportation across the Sahara.

People chose to change the means of transportation due to the benefits that the camels provide. One of the most important is the capacity of these animals to cross large distances without drinking water.

Moreover, camels have the ability to take full advantage of the poor-quality food that is available throughout the desert.
