Solve for x (get x by itself)


[tex]4x-\frac{5}{y} =2z[/tex]       Add 5/y on both sides

[tex]4x-\frac{5}{y}+\frac{5}{y}=2z+\frac{5}{y}[/tex]

[tex]4x=2z+\frac{5}{y}[/tex]       Divide 4 on both sides to get "x" by itself

[tex]\frac{4x}{4} =\frac{2z+\frac{5}{y}}{4}[/tex]

[tex]x = \frac{z}{2}+\frac{5}{4y}[/tex]



If dividing 4 confuses you, then you can do this:

[tex]4x=2z+\frac{5}{y}[/tex]      Multiply 1/4 on both sides

[tex](\frac{1}{4})4x=(2z+\frac{5}{y})(\frac{1}{4})[/tex]  Distribute 1/4 into (2z + 5/y)

[tex]x=(2z(\frac{1}{4})+\frac{5}{y}(\frac{1}{4}))[/tex]

[tex]x = \frac{z}{2} +\frac{5}{4y}[/tex]
