Alone on the Hilltop is a story that illustrates a rite of passage that Sioux men undergo in order to transition from boy to men. The protagonist, a sixteen-year-old Sioux kid, goes through his first vision-seeking ritual - or hanblechia, in his effort to become a medicine man, or yuwipi.
