Edmund Jackson Davis (October 2 1827 - February 24, 1883) was an American lawyer, soldier and politician. He served a mandate from 1870 to 1874 as the Governor of Texas.

His government in Texas has been very concerned with the rights of Afro Americans, the fight against crime, including black police officers.

Although he was not favored by people in Texas, he was remembered for his hard work to revive education. Davis advocated that African Americans be treated equally in education. The schools had a common curriculum and a standard certification program. For education, among other things, money is allocated through increased taxes.
