If I remember correctly the answer is "They would keep any one branch from having too much power."
The correct answer is They would keep any one branch from having too much power.
The checks and balance system is based on giving specific responsibilities to different branches of the government in order to ensure no one group/person has too much power. In the US government, we have a system of checks and balances.
In the federal government, the legislative branch (aka Congress) has the ability to make laws. The executive branch has the power to enforce laws. Lastly, the Supreme Court has the ability to interpret what the laws mean and whether or not they violate the rights of citizens.
