Martha Washington, George Washington's wife, was the one providing food and comfort during the winter war at Valley Forge.

During the 18th century, armies did not fight in winter, and they spent it in quarters. George Washington had requested that Martha should visit him every winter during the war.

Martha Washington had a vital role in the camp, not only managing food or comforting his husband, but also taking an active role in organising social events, nursing injured soldiers and cheering the troops.
