Answer:
Two genes for each trait
Explanation:
All the traits of an individual, whether they are physical, behavioral or physiological, they are controlled by genes which are the unit of inheritance.
Each character of an organism is encoded by a specific gene, but because organisms are composed of diploid cells, this means that each gene is present in two copies. These two copies of genes are commonly termed as alleles because they are alternative form of genes.
For example: eye color of a person is blue because he has two genes for eye colors, one from his father and one from his mother, but blue form of the gene was dominant on other color gene, therefore that person has blue eyes.
Same goes for each and every trait of an organism. The genes are two in number although gametes get only one of them.
Note: As we know alleles are alternative form of genes but to keep answer and explanation simple, we used the same term gene for allele because in actual both are same.
