There were several restrictions on Slaves, they were not allowed to read and write, education was denied because it was believed that by giving them the knowledge of education they will uprise against their masters(owners). Slaves were not allowed to own anything or trade their possession they were their master's property ones he buys them, slaves were not allowed to leave their master's plantation without a pass signed by his master.
