Do you agree or disagree with A. Mitchell Palmer’s efforts to prevent a “radical” revolution in the United States?

Respuesta :

I disagree completely with A. Mitchell Palmer's efforts to prevent "radical revolution" because they not only compromised basic America rights and liberties, the things he was ostensibly protecting, but also failed to turn up any solid evidence at all. His efforts can be seen as the actual radical revolution that violated the rights of Americans and harmed society.

After World War I, there was a fear in the United States of Communists and Communism. Many people believed communists to be dangerous extremists, and they were worried about the possibility of them gaining power in the United States. This is known as the Red Scare. A. Mitchell Palmer reacted to this fear by trying to prevent a "radical" revolution. He conducted a series of raids intended to stop revolutionary plans before they started. I disagree with Palmer's efforts. While some monitoring might not have been a bad idea, the paranoia that was created during these years only led to people becoming more confused about what it meant to be communist. It also made it difficult to approve of some positive changes, such as labor unions.
