1. The fur trade began in the 1500s with American Indians trading furs for European tools and weapons. The first region to trade furs in North America was the (Green Shaded Area).

2.  An important trade center for the fur trade in the New Netherland area would include modern day states of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island (the pink shaded area labeled the Appalachians/Appalachian Mountain area).

3. Trade routes included major rivers and waterways. The large bay controlled by England in North America was the Hudson Bay.
