Respuesta :
Due to global warming, the climatic conditions such as rise in temperature of the coral habitat in the oceans changes. The corals become stressed by changes in conditions. Under these conditions, corals expel the symbiotic algae living in their tissues. This turns corals completely white. This is called coral bleaching. Due to coral bleaching, it becomes more stressed and this can leads to its death. Algae also may not be able to survive alone.
The algae and corals will most likely die if global warming continues.
SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP:
- A symbiotic relationship is an association of two or more organisms. A type of symbiosis is mutualism in which the two organisms benefit one another.
- This is the case of the coral reef described in this question. An algae lives in the cells of corals and helps provide energy via photosynthesis while the coral offers protection to the algae.
- However, global warming induces an unfavorable condition by disrupting photosynthesis in the algae, causing a poisonous build-up that threatens corals.
This, therefore, means that an increase in global warming will cause the algae and corals to likely die due to a phenomenon called coral bleaching.
