The Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke are known as the Synoptic Gospel because they parallel each other. They are called synoptic from the Greek word synopsis, meaning "seeing all together" since they share a common sequence of events, similar wording and provide the reader with an overall or joint view of the life and deeds of Jesus and his delivery of the Gospel (in Greek, evangelion or "good news").
