In Gibbons vs. Ogden(1824), the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government could regulate interstate commerce.

This case refers to the split of two partners -Ogden and Gibbons- that started to compete each other in steamboat business. Ogden sued Gibbons in a New York court because Gibbons did not have a license of operation.

Ogden won and Gibbons appealed to the Supreme Court.
