In order to find out how many solutions the equation has, you have to solve for x.

The first step is to distribute the 5 into the parenthesis. Since 5 times x is 5x and 5 times -3 is -15, the equation becomes:

5x-15+1=5x-14


You can group the terms on the left side even more to combine the like terms:

5x-14 = 5x-14


As can be seen, the two sides are equal. Any number can be put into the equation and it would still be equal. An infinite amount of numbers can be put in, therefore there's infinite solutions.
