Answer: During the Venezuelan crisis (2010-present) many things happened:
- National and per capita GDPs between 2013-2017 were lower than those of the US during the Great Depresion.
- +240 deaths, +18400 injuries and +34000 detained.
- Venezuela has developed an estimated debt of 105 billion US$.
- There have been constant shortages of all types of products, even basic necessities like toilet paper or medicine.
- Venezuela´s unemployment rate increased drastically and the country´s economy became one of the poorest in the world.
Explanation:
Venezuela wasn't having fun.
9 out of 10 people was in poverty and can't afford basic needs like food or water.
Inflation rose to 53,798,500% since 2016. To just see how bad this is, one roll of toilet paper costs 2.6 million bolivars, that is a stack of 1000 bolivar notes up to 26cm high! It's only going to get worse.
100,000 people killed in 2018 because of the crisis, making Venezuela the third most violent country in the world.
As if Venezuela wasn't corrupt enough because of its horrible dictator Nicolas Maduro, US sanctions came in. Blocking out its main source of profit, oil. US stoped trading with Venezuela oil, which was a third of Venezuela's economy.
I hope that helped.
