Upon reading NY Times Article: "Democracy in America: How Is It Doing?" and watching the clip (clean, classroom edit) below from HBO's Newsroom, explain whether you believe the United States is still the greatest country in the world or why it no longer is since the recent discussions by the US of pulling back from NATO, the United Nations Human Rights Council, and the alliance with the European Union. Explain your reasoning. If you are explaining why it no longer is, do you believe it could be one of the greatest again?

I do not think so.

In my opinion, the foreign policy of the current US government has diminished the country's relative importance to the world. The United States has always been considered the country of freedom and the American dream. However, the sense of freedom has diminished before the preaching of nationalism. Anyway, I believe it is possible that the US will once again be the best country in the world. Governments and their policies are transient, we have a solid democracy and our culture is still hegemonic.

I do not believe that America is still the greatest country in the world and the clip from Newsroom summarizes it perfectly.

The United States of America isn't even the country with the highest rank of liberties in the world. We don't have the greatest Economy, nor the greatest education. And for sure, the political dichotomy that demands confrontation instead of conversation is not helping the country at all.

The fact that the country is pulling back from NATO or the United Nation Human Rights Council has little to do with the degradation that our country has been going through.

America has been on the top for so long that we probably thought it would never fall from there.

Every time we shame someone who thinks differently than us and speak with patronizing tones to them as if we hold some moral superiority, we are alienating the other side which makes us care only about one side of what's wrong.

People have grown so dependent of the State that they allowed it to control every single aspect of their lives. The United States of America is not longer the country of our founding fathers and it does not maintain the same values.

Making America Great again should not be about catch phrases or more governmental interference but about taking matters into our own hands, fixing the country from the inside with dedication, but all must come willingly for those who are forced to do something are nothing but slaves.

America can be great again, yes.

But we need to remember who we are supposed to be.

We are supposed to be the great country of the small government, filled with great people that take matters into their hands and make life better for their sons and daughters with their own effort.

We are not supposed to fight for moral high grounds, but for a better tomorrow.

We are not supposed to ask for the government to protect us, we are supposed to protect ourselves from the growth of the government.

America is a free country, but it must become once again the country of freedom.
