Respuesta :

The correct answer is "The Napoleonic Code gave men and women equality under the law", as the statement that best summarizes the set of laws.

Before the Napoleonic Code, family and marital life was controlled by the Church and Canon Law. Women were under complete authority of their father until marriage, when the power passed on to their husbands. Women could not own any property, divorce did not exist, and they didn't have any economic freedom at all.

The Code introduced the concept of Community, a shared pool of assets and liabilities between husband and wife. Even though the man still had the power to administer all the property in Community, he could no longer sell, alienate or pledge her movable property without her consent. With this first step towards the separation of goods and equality under the law, wives could revoke any mismanagement of their shared patrimony by their husbands.
