26. An elevator is 180 feet above the first floor. Each second it decends 12 feet.

a. What integer is the change in height of the elevator each second?

The answer would be 12 because every second, the elevator falls twelve feet, or "decends," as terminology from the text. An integer is any whole number. Some examples are 15, 137, and -58.

Answer: 12 feet

b. Write multiplication problem to find each height.

So, I will be using some algebra for this. I will use variable s for the seconds and variable h for the height descended. So, for every second, it descends 12 feet. That would mean for every second (s) it descends 12 feet (s*h)

So, if the elevator had been descending for 5 seconds, we would do 5*12.

I'm going to fill out your chart. Please see image at the bottom.

c. Estimate how many seconds it will take for the elevator to reach the first floor. Explain your reasoning.

I estimate that it will take 15 seconds to reach the first floor. This is because when you multiply 12 and 12 together, you almost end the circle. Also, it shows on the graph.

This is an estimate, so you mostly use your own reasoning to figure out what the answer is by using an educated guess NOT by random.

d. From the first floor, it takes 4 seconds to reach the basement floor. What is the height of the basement floor with respect to the first floor?

So, you need to figure out what height the basement floor is at while comparing to the first floor. First, we should multiply 12 by 4.

12*4=48

Now, we have our answer.

The basement floor is 48 feet lower than the first floor. It's depth compared to the first floor as the first floor being "0" is -48.

I hope I helped ^w^
