In chapter one of “Of Mice and Men”, Lennie is portrayed as a bear. We know this based off of his animalistic description. “Behind him walked his opposite, a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, pale eyes, and wide, sloping shoulders; and he walked heavily, dragging his feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws. His arms did not swing at his sides, but hung loosely.” His shape and movements are described in the way a bear’s would be. Later on, Lennie even says to George that he would go off into a cave for George. These direct quotes and analyzations prove that Lennie’s portrayal in Chapter 1 was animalistic, perhaps even bear-like.
