I'm going to do this a way that is a little shorter than the way people usually do it. It avoids doing it using the distributive property. I'll go back and do it with the distributive property.
Method One
2(4x - 11) + 9 = 19 Subtract 9 from both sides.
2(4x - 11) = 19 - 9
2(4x - 11) = 10 Divide by 2
(4x - 11) = 10/2
4x - 11 = 5 Add 11 to both sides.
4x = 5 + 11
4x = 16 Divide by 4
x = 16/4
x = 4
Method 2
2(4x - 11) + 9 = 19
8x - 22 + 9 = 19
8x - 13 = 19 Add 13 to both sides
8x = 19 + 13
8x = 32 Divide by 8
x = 32 /8
x = 4
Take your pick of which one you like better.
