4. ice core contains ice formed at different times. it provides a sample on what the atmospheric contents in the past. Evidences of past events that affected climate, like ice age and large volcanic eruptions, can be found in ice core.

5. by comparing some current atmospheric content against the past from ice core, such as particulate counts and CO2 percentage, we find out how those climate-changing content have affected current climiate and predict its effect on the future.
