So you would set it up like 5 *divided* by 2, then you see how many time the whole number 2 can go into five (two times) and you would have a remainder if 1. Since this fraction is out of two (halves) you would put your 2 down, then use use remainder of one, and put a 2 around it . So basically 2 and 1/2 or 2 1/2.
