In his book ''The Interpretation of Cultures'', the anthropologist Clifford Geertz has written the data on a Balinese cockfight, which was first promulgated in 1972. He had given the account of Rooster in Balinese which is known as 'sabung' used to describe a hero, fighter, winner, political candidate, misogamist, etc. He also states that cockfights become the comparison for battles, actions, political contests, and street fights.
