According to auguste comte, the writings of thomas hobbes, john locke, and adam smith shifted focus from moral obligation to god and king (theological stage) to "the pursuit of self-interest" (metaphysical stage).
Auguste Comte was a French social scholar who instituted the term sociology in 1831. He is known as the Father of Sociology. Comte considered society to be the result of three phases of historical advancement:
1) The Theological Stage,
2) The Metaphysical Stage and
3) The Scientific Stage.
