To sum it down Congress' challenge was whether to allow slavery in new territories, it was so because the southern states had helped drastically in the Mexican-American war and from which they believed they would receive a reward for, Congress ended up splitting have of the new territories into slave states and non slave states.
The Mexican-American war has led to the presentation and passing of five separate bills by United States congress which gave rise to a debate that whether the new states should allow slavery.
Challenge Faced By Congress
- There was a trend practiced of making and trading slaves in the old states and during the Mexican-American war in 1850, those people turned out to be of great help.
- They were expecting slavery free states as a reward for battling in the war and this gave rise to a dilemma for US congress.
- The congress decided to introduce few slavery free states.
