The Age of Enlightenment saw the shift of European beliefs and discoveries of politics, philosophy, science, communication, and others. They emphasized on reasoning, skepticism, and individualism. One of the most key figure of the Enlightenment that stands out to me the most is Thomas Jefferson.

As one of the founding fathers of the USA, Jefferson was able to incorporate many of the beliefs that we now have as rights today, as well as draft the Declaration of Independence that led to us being a nation. He also led the beliefs that religious tolerance was needed for the country to survive, and later on in his life he believed that emancipation was needed sooner or later.

A key figure during the Enlightenment was Adam Smith. He wrote the Wealth of Nations which explained the invisible hand and how rational self-interest and competition led to prosperity. More than anyone else in history, Smith defined the study of modern economics. He was was controversial in his own day but his influences are felt to this day by everyone living in free market economies everywhere around the globe.
