John is trying to escape a ditch. Every times he jumps 10 meters, he falls back 5 meters right after. The ditch is 19 meters long. What is the minimum number of jumps he needs to make to escape?

Respuesta :

1 jump + 1 fall back moves him forward 10 - 5 = 5 metres

So continuing in this fashion his distance from start is:-

1 jump :- 5 metres

2 jumps :- 10 metres

- at this point he is 9 metres from escaping from the ditch so his 10 metre jump will take him out.

So the answer is 3 jumps.
