In printmaking, a plate or block will be canceled so that no more
prints can be made from it. Printmaking
is an art form which involves the production of multiple images known as prints
mainly on paper and also on fabric, plastic and parchment by using several
techniques of multiplication under the direct supervision of or by the hand of
the artist. In printmaking, the modern artist usually cancels a plate or block in a
distinctive manner to ensure that any reprint from the plate is
identifiable and so that no more prints can be made
from it.
