Rainford claims that no animal knows how to reason. This shows that he doesn't know what kind of animal the general hunts.

Who is Rainford?

He is a character in "The Most Dangerous Game."
He's a professional hunter.
He is a victim of General Zaroff.

General Zaroff is also a professional hunter, however, he wants to hunt humans and makes Rainford his victim. He states to Rainford that he wishes to hunt rational animals and Rainford doesn't understand what he means by stating that "[...] no animal can reason."
