When gas law is combined with the formula for kinetic energy, we have
KE = ½mv² = (3/2)kT
We can rearrange the equation to calculate for the velocity of the gas molecules from the temperature of gas as
v = (3RT/M)^(1/2)
We can see that the temperature is directly proportional to the velocity and that if the temperature is increased by a factor of four, the velocity of the gas will increase by a factor of 2.
