Henry Cabot Lodge believed that the US was more powerful when it acted alone. This statement shows that he did not want to join the League of Nations after World War I.

Lodge believed that the United States would be dragged into international conflicts that they did not need to be involved in. Along with this, Lodge discussed how the needs and wants of the US citizens would be second priority to the needs of citizens in other countries. With this information in mind, Lodge argues that the US would be stronger without joining the League of Nations. When left alone (aka isolated) the US could pursue whatever trading partners they want and would be able to make decisions that are best for the citizens of the US.
