On Nov. 12, 1989, the Berlin Wall was overcome as the barrier between East and West Berlin. The Berlin Blockade was happened June 1948–May 1949), during which the Soviet Union blocked all ground travel into West Berlin and then in the following months, the divided Germany was peacefully reunified, bringing an end to the Cold War. Although this action come more than a year before the Soviet Union dissolution, for many observers the reunification of Germany effectively marked the end of the Cold War.
