The Civil Rights movement was non-violent in that those taking a stand would participate in boycotts (bus boycotts), sit-ins and marches or protests. There were also times when there were riots. I feel that both ended up being effective but that the non-violent forms of resistance were most effective.

There were many protests, boycotts, sit-ins, and marches that were non-violent, such as the Montgomery bus boycott. These were very effective and usually lead to changes being made. These nonviolent protestors were often faced with violence by others, but they still were effective. The black Panther Party is an example of a violent riot in which the people fighting for civil rights attacked others and destroyed property. This was ineffective because it didn’t lead to any real change.
