In compounding Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), an automix is used to
assist with the preparation of TPN orders. This automated compounding device
prepares the Intravenous products containing dextrose, amino acids, trace
mineral, vitamins, and other pharmacological agents. Additionally, TPN is
administered to patients who have a condition that prevents proper absorption
of nutrients or unable to swallow.
