A gift of love is the most precious gift of them all, but what happens when the gift is also a double edged sword. In this short story by O. Henry called the gift of magi, the main characters Della and Jim are both deeply in love with each other. They both want to get the other a special gift for Christmas but they are too poor to afford anything so they both sell their prized possession to be able to buy the gifts for each other. O Henry uses this short story to show money has no effect on true love, even with the limited funds they had they were both willing to make sacrifices for each other.
