Have you ever considered a career in agriculture? A variety of opportunities are available to those with an interest in working with plants, animals, or the environment.

Farmers are hard-working people who often rise early in the morning and work many hours. Their most obvious job is to plant, care for, and harvest crops or raise livestock, but they are also responsible for the business and financial aspects of the farm.

Foresters balance the need for timber with the conservation of forest-lands. One way foresters do this is to ensure that when timber companies cut down trees, they do not destroy the entire environment in the process. In areas where too much timber has been chopped down, they oversee the repopulation of healthy forests.

Landscape architects plan and design attractive arrangements of trees, flowers, and plants to beautify parks, college campuses, shopping centers, businesses, and other areas. Not only do landscapers work outdoors creating appealing areas, but they also sketch plans for indoor areas.

Horticulture refers to the study of gardening. Horticulturists must manage greenhouses, communicate and plan with landscape designers, provide advice to customers on care of trees, flowers, shrubs, plants, lawns, and gardening products. Some horticulturists maintain formal gardens, others take care of golf courses, cemeteries, or parks.

People in agricultural careers often spend much time outdoors. They must stay in good physical condition and enjoy the outdoors.
