A new form of plagiarism has emerged in recent years with the widespread use of the Internet as a readily accessible source of information. This newer form of plagiarism involves copying and pasting passages from online sources without providing proper credit. Due to the ease of this practice, many students inadvertently fall into this trap. When conducting research for a paper, it's crucial to avoid this error. Remember that the passage belongs to its author, not to you. If you directly quote a passage from an online source, ensure to enclose it in quotation marks and provide proper credit. If you choose to paraphrase the passage, still give credit but refrain from using quotation marks.
What can you do if you are unsure if you are citing your sources properly?
A. Keep good records of my notes as I research.
B. Always cite my sources when copying or pasting information during note-taking.
C. Handwrite my notes on note cards and keep track of my sources on notecards.
D. Look at the checker after I submit my work to a dropbox to do a final check to make sure I didn't miss anything.
E. Ask my teacher for more help if I am unsure.
