Plan your writing by thinking about the topic and your purpose. While a narrative piece requires you to describe a sequence of events, argumentative writing requires you to first state your point of view, then tell why you think it is correct and present facts to support your opinion.
Identifying – Choose the main elements that you want to include in your piece. Limit the number of elements to those that are most important.
Drafting – Write your ideas down quickly to form a rough draft. Consider opposing claims that you may need to contradict.
Revising – Change and improve the rough draft. Get rid of unnecessary parts. Add important details that will improve the material. Include a concluding statement that summarizes and supports your position.
Proofreading – Correct any errors in spelling, punctuation, and clarity. Read the entire piece to make sure you have communicated clearly.
Publishing – Finish the writing. Edit your piece one more time before you publish it (make it available to read) for the audience.
