The life and works of Baroque female painter Artemisia Gentileschi were seriously relaunched around 20 years ago and she was immediately upheld as THE proto-feminist painter par excellence. Her works, which had always been famous, were re-read in a feminist lens once her real-life story came to the surface. Recent scholarship, however, has insisted that we should not read Artemisia's works by making reference to her life story. Susanna and the Elders (1610) ) one of of Gentileschi paintings, analyze it in the light of the above statement.
