We covered two broad approaches to explaining the development of pointing gestures. (a) Outline Tomasello's theory of how pointing develops. Describe and explain two criticisms of his theory. (b) Describe the process-relational framework for how pointing develops. (c) Explain the two theories outlined under this framework (Vygotsky's and Carpendale's) and, if applicable, explain the criticisms that we covered of these.
