Exercise Extravaganza
by Tirzah Tyler
Last month, I watched a TV commercial that changed my life. On the commercial, a doctor recommended that people exercise at
least three times a week. He explained that exercising regularly can prevent many health problems. I asked myself quietly, "How hard
can exercising be?"
So, the next morning, I dug my old tennis shoes out of the closet and put on an old pair of shorts and a T-shirt. I decided to go
outside and run laps around the block. At first, my workout felt wonderful while the fresh air pumped in and out of my lungs. I wanted
to cheer myself on, so I told myself, "Go for it!" About halfway around the block, my lungs burned, my stomach ached, my legs
cramped, and my feet stung
I clutched my abdomen, crawled back to my house, and turned on the TV while I waited to catch my breath. The same doctor was
on TV again, but he was on a different commercial. This time, he explained that a person should always warm up before exercising.
He also said that power walking is healthier than running. With a sigh, I said under my breath, "Now he tells me."
