There is a marked difference between the intimacy described above and the hype of relationships we have with celebrities. The explosion of the Internet and cable TV has created a difference in the way we understand people. We are now exposed to the celebrity in different stages. The difference is that there is no give-and-take or growth in such relationships. The celebrities remain figments of our imagination, beings whose lives seem exciting and glamorous, who awaken our curiosity, feed off the attention we give, and use it as currency to aid in accumulating fame and fortune.
