The Patton family operated a thriving marina on their beautiful parcel of lakefront property near Joseph, Oregon. For 15 years, the Pattons used a section of property belonging to their neighbors, the Dawsons, as a beach for the marina's customers. The Pattons also stored a large float on the beach during the winter months, built their own retaining wall, and planted bushes and flowers there. The Pattons prevented non-customers from using the property, including the Dawsons, using signs that read "for marina customers only." Nevertheless, the families always had a friendly relationship, and one of the Dawsons gave the Pattons permission to continue using the beach in July 2016. He also reminded the Pattons' of the Dawsons' ownership several times, to which the Pattons never acknowledged. Over the course of operating the marina, the Pattons also asked for permission to mow grass on the property and once apologized to the Dawsons for leaving a jet ski there overnight. Please review the Oregon Revised Statute (link below) and determine, based on the facts, who has the superior claim to the land. Can the Pattons establish adverse possession over the section of marina beach under Oregon law?
