In analyzing these things post-reconstruction had to be difficult. I believe that the process succeeded. I know it is easy to say that a lot of things failed during this time, but I think about the way of life of the people in the south, the amount of turmoil and the process of integrating freed men into this. There was a lot of things going in that was working against them. Slaves, for instance, were now free, but turned to work on the farms they had been slaves to in some instances. This would seem crazy in today's world, however that was the life they knew. It was a means for providing though not much in some instances. I think that it was a success and that at that time in that society everyone was kind of doing the best they could. There was no blueprint for reconstruction.
