Department of the Treasury
The Department of the Treasury, the part of the U.S. government that deals with money, was
officially formed in 1789. From the beginning, it had duties like keeping track of the government's
money and making reports to Congress. Today, the Department of the Treasury still performs
these tasks. It also has new duties like printing paper money and working with the governments
of other countries.
