Jerry, an African American man, goes to apply for a job at a local
accounting firm and has an interview with the firm's partner, Tom. On paper, Jerry
looks perfect for the job: he has a degree from UF, he has 10 years of Big 4 accounting
experience, and he even has great letters of recommendation. However, after his
interview with Tom, Jerry is not hired and Tom continues to search for other
accountants who Tom feels will "have a personality that better fits with the firm."
Disparate treatment has occurred.
