You must reference at least one of the texts and an event from it to support your reasoning. Your response should be at least 2 paragraphs long (5-7 sentences each).
- In the Canterbury Tales, Chaucer uses his platform to point out flaws with elements of society (the Church, aristocracy, professionals, etc.). In what way does he show this? How does this commentary on society appear in the text? Examine at least two pilgrims of your choosing and analyze their allegorical meaning. Your response should be at least 2 paragraphs in length (5-7 sentences each) and address which pilgrims you are analyzing, how Chaucer presents them, and what he is attempting to point out through their usage.
- Compare and contrast the way Macbeth and Lady Macbeth act after they’ve conspired to kill Duncan (AFTER Duncan is dead/AFTER Act 2). In what ways are their responses to Duncan’s death similar? In what ways are they different? Your response should be at least two paragraphs (5-7 sentences each)

- Based on Samuel Pepys' diary, how would you characterize him? What happens that leads you to that conclusion about him? How does this piece fit into the Enlightenment period? Your response should be at least one long paragraph (7-9 sentences) in length, and no more than 3 paragraphs long.
- How does the genre of “satire” work? What, typically, is the goal of a satirist? How do we see that goal met, or missed, by either Pope or Swift? Make sure to defend your stance by discussing the work we have read by them. Your response should be at least two paragraphs long (5-7 sentences each), wherein you explain what the point of satire is, how satire works, and then analyze the work of your choice (“A Modest Proposal” or The Rap3 of the Lock).
