Coverage: Mycoplasma, rickettsia, chlamydia, borrelia, brucella
MOA: 30S inhibitor; prevents elongation (bacteriostatic)
Adverse effects/other: GI toxicity (Clostridium difficile infection), growth abnormalities, teeth discoloration, photosensitivity, outdated tetracycline associated w/ Fanconi syndrome, chelation of cations (reduces absorption of antimicrobial) space apart by several hours, doxycycline is eliminated by fecal route
Should not be administered to:
a) Elderly patients
b) Pregnant females
c) Patients with hypertension
d) Pediatric patients
